Hello
​​My name is Christine Hrenya, and I have a lifelong passion for education, and particularly the oral communication of science. As an undergraduate engineering student, I worked in the Math Department as a recitation instructor for biweekly classes. As a graduate student, this expanded to communication of my doctoral research. And for 25 years as an engineering faculty member, I stressed communication skills in both the courses I taught and in the training of graduate students in my lab.

It wasn't always easy. My nerves went through the roof for my oral Ph.D. qualifying exam, and again for my first conference presentation. But the more I presented, and the more types of audiences I presented for, the more confident I became as a public speaker. To the point of actually enjoying it.

​So I began teaching and training others in the effective communication of science. It began with a 1-credit hour graduate course, morphed into short training sessions, and then blossomed into multi-day, group workshops.
